Here it comes…

Richard Perle is out floating trial balloons for the bombing of Iran. James Wolcott studies the splatter on the wall like he’s reading tea leaves:

Not content with pimping Ahmed Chalabi and helping embroil the United States in one bloody mess in Iraq, Richard Perle wants to enlarge the theater of operations and bog us down in another one. He spoke the other day at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee–AIPAC–policy conference in Washington, DC.

“The audience also liked Perle’s statement that he would hope ‘if justification for military action developed in Iran,’ the United States ‘wouldn’t expect little Israel to do our job.’ He received more applause when he followed that up with, ‘If Iran is on the verge of a nuclear weapon, we will have no choice but to take decisive action.’”

Perle was addressing the AIPAC policy conference in Washington, DC.

I don’t know if the recent Small-Plane-Causes-the-Evacuation-of-RNC-headquarters-thing counts as a Terror alert (which means that Agent Little Bird owes me some sushi), but I am regretfully ready to go double-or-nothing on bombs in Iran by July 4th. Just because it’s a bad idea and just because the Perle/Wolfowitz/Feith Axis of Weeble has gotten us into the shitstorm in Iraq, doesn’t mean that the White House will even consider changing course on the bombing of Iran. The President is still out stumping for the demolition of Social Security, despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of Americans want SS left alone. No Bad Idea Left Behind!

The cutoff on our bet was May 1. The late unpleasantness with the evacuation was May 11. So, yeah, you owe me. Too bad I won’t be around when Rusan’s opens; I was really looking forward to cashing in on this bet with you.

Oh, and I’ll take you up on your double-or-nothing. What would count as hostilities in Iran?

I was gonna blog this, but I’m sure Gord was getting to it. Wolcott’s his boy. As for my guess, they’ll settle for Venezuela.

What? Venezuela? When Syria’s just a desert ride away for our New Bushistan (formerly the Sovereign Nation of Iraq)?
