Looks like those extra Abu Ghraib photos are gonna hit after all. And baby, they’re bad. Really bad.
The images, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told Congress, depict “acts that can only be described as blatantly sadistic, cruel, and inhuman.” After Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-Ga.) viewed some of them in a classified briefing, he testified that his “stomach gave out.”
NBC News reported that they show “American soldiers beating one prisoner almost to death, apparently raping a female prisoner, acting inappropriately with a dead body, and taping Iraqi guards raping young boys.” Everyone who saw the photographs and videos seemed to shudder openly when contemplating what the reaction would be when they eventually were made public…
If it’s bad enough to make Saxby Chambliss’ iron gut blow out- I mean, if most folks knew how “bizness gits done around these parts” they’d have some profound interactions with recent meals- then it must be pretty godawful.
Coupled with the emerging chorus of voices decrying the
run-up frame-up to the war in Iraq, I can envision the administration’s most likely defense of itself: (Let me put on my special fortune-telling fake mustache and beard…)
Yes, I see something… I see Donald Rumsfeld… and he’s saying something… something along the lines of “Your continued objections to this (illegal, immoral, unconscionable) thing we’re doing are making it really hard for us to keep doing it…” and the right wing noise machine will chime in with a mighty “…you traitorous scum!!!”
And I see the talking heads…. it’s the Sunday morning goon squad… and somehow they will be able to maintain a straight face while parroting what amounts to a “If you keep shining that light on me, I am not going to be able to keep robbing this bank” defense.
And… and…. I see… a boot stamping on a human face-forever…
