The Georgia High School Graduation Exam

I have been observing the US History class of a Coach (I’ll call him Coach Y) (all of us History teachers are Coaches. It’s the only way that you can teach history in Georgia. I am going to coach cross-country and soccer. Coach Y is the assistant football coach. He was this high school’s Teacher of the Year, and I think he’s a damn good teacher.)

Coach Y, like most of the teachers in the high school, is constrained in what he can emphasize in his lectures and his assigned readings by the Georgia High School Graduation Test. His performance is going to be measured by how well his students score on the Social Sciences section of that particular test. His principal is going to be given some sort of report on how well her students did on the exam and somehow it is going to reveal what segment of the student population that did well or poorly on the exam passed through Coach Y’s classroom.

What this leads to is a very narrowly focused discussion, and not a lot of room to talk broadly about the subject. Example- the question on the High School Graduation Exam is ¦Name one event that was a primary factor in causing the US to enter World War I.² And the answer the test is looking for is either going to be ¦The Zimmerman Telegram² or ¦The Sinking of the Lusitania.² SO- Several times during the class, Coach Y reiterates, ¦Class, name two events that were key in entry of the US into World War I- the sinking of the What?²

¦LUSITANIA² they answer.

¦And the What telegram?²

¦THE ZIMMERMAN TELEGRAM.²

I suppose that the introduction of the Georgia High School Graduation test is one way to try and measure the effectiveness of the educational system in Georgia, but it sure seems like a perfect example of the phenomenon of Bureaucratic Drift to me, ie- where a test or evaluation system is created to measure an institutionÃs effectiveness and the institution responds by conforming exactly to meet the standards measured by the test. The end result is the shallowing out of the studentsà learning experience. What they learn about history is not that it’s the best way to know who we are as a culture by seeing where we come from, but instead that itÃs best to know history so that one can pass the test.

I guess that it canÃt be helped, but it does seem a bit sad to me that this test that was created to try and improve the quality of these childrenÃs education has served in some cases to do exactly the opposite.

  1. Patrick,

You don’t explicitly say, but I assume that the test is multiple choice. And it also sounds like the teachers know the questions in advance, either the exact questions or a pool from which the questions will be drawn. If so, then the test must certainly be useless from its very conception.

Multiple choice questions have only one advantage that I can see (cheap to grade).

A much better graduation exam would consist of essay questions relevant to the curriculum but not drawn from a small pool of known questions. Imagine a question like, “Discuss the causal and inhibiting factors for the U.S. entry into World War I and World War II in light of subsequent, and possibly contradictory, allegations that the U.S. has been and continues to be ‘isolationist’ and ‘the world’s policeman.'” [Perhaps I’m naive to think that U.S. History as taught in U.S. can be self-critical?!]

I say even this with some fear and loathing, because I’m not sure about any kind of standardized testing. Taxpayers and parents want accountability but the trick is to ensure that it’s not false accountability based on trying to objectively or scientifically measure what resists such measurement.

  2. The test questions are pulled from a pool of questions- not possible questions, but questions that are KNOWN to be on the exam. And the test is multiple choice. So, you’re correct- this is a way to make sure that the students have had a peak at the test ahead of time.

Remember that this test is to establish minimum requirements for the students to be allowed to graduate from high school, so maybe in-depth analysis is a lot to ask from students who are headed off to jobs in the refrigerator moving industry.

On the other hand, if the test were a formality and the questions that the teachers knew were going to be on the test were something that could be dispensed with in the first semester, then some teaching could really take place once that’s out of the way. Unfortunately, with the new phenomenon of block scheduling, where everything has to be covered in 18 weeks, it’s now all the teachers can do to cover the material that will be on the test in the time allowed.

We can be grateful for this inasmuch as it gives us a system that is LOADED with opportunities for reform.

  3. That’s real irony. It makes me think of the Hawthorne Effect — if people know they’re being watched, they’ll modify their behavior.

I am also against standardized testing, in most cases. I think there is a definite need for tests such as the SAT, GRE, etc. But these high school graduation tests and other such? I just don’t know. I remember all the standardized tests we had to take in elementary and middle school, and most were pretty worthless.

Does this template insert paragraph breaks? We shall see.

So are ya back in Georgia, Patrick??

  4. hope

Well, when someone thinks of a better, more cost-effective way to compare apples to apples so that we can meaure the effectiveness of public education dollars, I’m sure the standardized tests will go. Guess its a good thing that creative people like you choose to teach!

  5. I think the GHSGT is extremely useless and a waste of time. I absolutely hate standardized tests especially the passages you have to read in the language arts section. They’re always about rabbits, pollution, or the many uses for kudzu.

Now, I am a 17 year old student in the GA area. I think that the graduation test has become a problem, but then again it shows what really goes on in classrooms. I passed the Math part with a 503, The English with 559. Now you have to make a 500 to pass. I made a 499 on the Social Studies. Now not only does this test not allow people to graduate, but it is causing alot of people to drop out of school. I will continue to take the test until I pass them. But the Science part is not that easy, no matter how you put it. Some people are able to pass it, and then there are some who can’t. And I think that the test needs to go.

  7. ANGEL

I think that the test should be voted out because, if you spent 12yrs in school and have all of you credits but, the only thing holding you back is science part of ghsgt. Why spend all that time and still cannot receive you diploma until you pass it. I don’t want to get a diploma and that’s it i want to better myself and go to school.

  8. Timothy

When it comes to graduating…… I agree with those of you about the test is useless.I could be a graduate out of the c/o ’97 but because you have to pass your requirements, and you miss it by 1 point…… that is tough on a person.Social Studies , I have’nt passed and so therefor i have no diploma, like all of these other students….. I made good grades in high school with a “b”average at graduation. I have traveled back and forth to try the test several times…..still my chances are useless to pass.
Now, living in Memphis,Tn it is hard to try taking off from work to take the retest when its given…. people have told me to go get a g.e.d. and get it over with.I’m like i didn’t drop out of high school, to go get a g.e.d. here almost going on 7yrs out of high school this june’04 i will still be considered an ungraduated student….. how sad…. you would think that eventually those who cant pass certain parts…. that they might would give you a little boost , but NO,not in your dreams.
I feel the pain and aggrevation that some and all of you do feel about the ghsgt ….maybe i could just use some and anyones’ advice or suggestions…email me @ mysunny@bellsouth.net

I agree with almost everything said here today. I am a Social Studies teacher and a coach. However, I do have one question; Where do I find this “pool” of questions? We were told that there was no such database. Please let me know.

I think that the test should not be in effect because there are a lot of people having a lot of problems with it. I think that everyone that had not passed the test when the new test goes in effect the government should award the students a high shool diploma or a ged or something so we can go to college and continue our education.

  11. Marie

I like others that need only two points to graduate 498 find it useless there is no point to it. The drop out rate for Cumming, Ga has gone from a 65% to a 85% due to Students failing the GHSGT. There’s not much anyone can do I’ve got a friend who’s failed all 4 tests with an 499 three times this well be his 5th time coming march 22 to take the test along with me. I’ve studied nonstop to pass the scince test doesn’t seem to do any good since it just goes from a 497 to a 498. Counselors also are no help and when you ask it’s like well just study. Even upon asking my science teacher he just gave me a packet to study from which was not really any help at all. I really need to pass this year or I can’t graduate and of course this is quite stupid since it’s my 5th time taking it and I feel stupid since all of the Foreigners have passed it there first time. I would really like to know if anyone could help me. Any other study methods besides just studying some packet well be quite helpful to me.

I THINK THE GHSGT IS SET UP FOR PEOPLE TO FAIL.KIDS ARE GETTING DISCOURAGED,WHAT HAPPEN TO NO KIDS LEFT BEHIND KIDS ARE DROPPING OUT OF SCHOOL,I THOUGHT THAT WE ARE HERE TO HELP WE UNDERSTAND THAT EVERY ONE IS NOT GOOD AT TAKIND TESTS,I THINK THAT THE GHSGT SHOULD NOT BE PART OF THE CURRICULM.YOU HAVE KIDS WHO HAS TOOKEN THIS OVER 20 TIMES.THE KIDS SELF-ESTEEM HAD BEEN SHOT DOWN PLEASE HELP OUR KIDS.

this is for people that inforce this exam upon students today! i am a senior at ACCHS. I think it is very stupid that you have to take this test. if you can pass 9-12 then you shouldnt have to take it! i think it is unfair to people that want to graduate and make something on themself to have to take this test.

  15. Peaches

I think that the ghsgt is just something to get one to drop out as all others have been saying. I still not pass Social Studies and this is the last time taking it before I know if I can march with my class. This is really sad because I really want to march with the class of 2004.

  16. kris

i think the ghsgt is a big waist of time simply becuse not all can pass it, some of us have capable ability to graduate, yet could not pass a test to save our lives, and the ghsgt just seems to make it unfair for those trying to make it out of high school, i may have passed it, but what about the other million people who didnt?

  17. Nadia

The test is very stupid becauss the country is saying “no child left behind” but if students fail the test they are being left behind because they don’t get to graduate with the appropriate paper work needed.”A Degree.” A A+ student like me need to graduate so that I can make something usefull out of my life and if this test prevent me from doing that then there is no need to go to school if I can’t graduate. PLAESE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS TEST TO HELP PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO MAKE A LIVING. THANKS. LET OUR VOICES BE HEARD THAT THIS TEST IS WACK……

  18. Meleva

IM AN ELEVENTH GRADER ABOUT TO TAKE THE TEST IN A FEW DAYS, I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A GREAT STUDENT, AND I FEEL THAT THESE TESTS ARE JUST OBSTACLES AND BLOCKS. BUT IM GOING TO PASS THEM ANYWAY, I JUST DONT AGREE WITH THEM. MUSCOGEE COUNTY-SHAW HIGH.

  19. I believe that the GHSGT is nothing but crap. I had to take the test two years ago and failed them all that year. Then I had to take It In the summer at beach high and failed them all then. And the year befor last I passed the English, and Social studies test. But I stell had the math and science test to think about. At the beginning of the school year I took the math and passed It. This year I have to take the science test. But I believe there should be no Stadardized test In the GA area becouse I dont wont to come back and have to take the test over. I wont to become come body In the furture. Without my daploma I realy cant do anything. See I wont to be a business women. I would love to open a store of cothes of my makeing. But GHSGT you are realy destroing us of are ability to make some thing of are self’s I never asked you for anything in my life just please stop the GHSGH before we all drop out. I was so close from droping out, I could not do it because I wont to be some body. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH WHAT I SAID OR YOU FEEL THE SAME WAY I DO WRITE ME AT YAHOO E-MAIL NATASHA@YAHOO.COM.

  20. Althea

I do not agree with taking the GHSGT. Many people spent many years and time going to school, getting all their credits, and cannot graduate. This test hurt a lot of families and students. Parents dreams are to see their child walk across the stage, and get their diploma. If you get all your credits, then you should graduate.Graduating is very important to me.It hurts me that i will have to take this test to walk. It is stressing me out.

  21. Tami

I have never been in agreement with the test since it went into effect. I have had two daughters that have taken it and was a breeze, While they had to help classmates study to pass. My youngest daughter however has a difficult time with it. one section she has fell short with a 495,499,499,and on the last attempt a 497. With a 500 needed. She has studided ,prayed, passed all her required courses. And now informed she will not be allowed to walk. we are devastated. Over a hundred announcements sent out,out of town guest with flights booked, party planned, not to mention all the other expense involved.” She can take the test over in July they say”, and then get her diploma. However not letting her walk is a memory she can never go back for. I would not be Bitter if she had not acheived the credits to graduate, that would be understandable. I have seen in the past where this has caused students to take another direction in life due to this exam, Some who had tested well on the SAT, And could not enroll in college due to the highschool test, And to embarresed to return to school and take it. And therefore never graduate. This is a concern that needs to be abolished.

  22. Stan

If anyone knows of a certain pool of questions the test will be drawn from, they are cheating, and can lose their teaching certificates for doing so. I am a Georgia teacher, and every year, we are required to go through a testing ethics session before we do any standardized tests. The graduation test is designed to assess our teaching standards/objectives, so we teach the state curriculum. We teach the curriculum, and the test is designed to assess that curriculum–but we do not get to look at the test, and we are not supposed to ask students what was on it. Even when scores are published, the exam questions are not. (There is a 4- or 5-year-old released exam available on the state department of education’s website.)

  23. PA

I too would love to get my diploma, I walked with my class in 2002 and cannot pass the Science part of the GHSGT to save my life. I think it’s unfair that I spent 12 years of my life in school just to get a dag on “Certificate of Attendance” I now reside in New Jersey and have no way to keep on taking the test. I refuse to get a GED because I deserve my High School Diploma. I did my time in school and yeah maybe I could have done alittle better but I still passed all my classes. I would love to continue my education but I can’t until I pass a test that I only need 3 points to pass. I’m disgusted with the GHSGT it’s nonsense. The higher up just like keeping us down, and they will never know how bad it hurts. So many are just walking with their class and not getting their diploma that’s foul.

  24. Jacob

    well i agree that the
GHSGT is bull because im 19 and a what you would call a 5th year senior because of that damn test i cant pass the science rotion i have taken it twice now and still cant pass it so im stuck in the school system till i do. i have to take it in 5 days again on the 11th of september so i can graduate and get my diploma. if any tips please tell me.

  25. Nathan

I am 19 years old… I had a b average in school but I could not pass the science part of the Graudtion test. and its not like they really help you study for the test in school. a 2 week session before the test that does not help anyone! I hace no idea what i am going to do with my life now im stuck! I want to go to college and become a computer techinacation! I dont want to work at Burger King for the rest of my life. I think if they wont get rid of the tests can we at least have more studing time for the tests with are teachers!

  26. My name is Freddie Thomas im from Hollywood, Florida where I attended a school called Hallandale High. I took a test called the Fcat which requires a 300 or higher to pass I had a 280. S i relocated in Jonesboro, GA to find information on taking the Georgia graduation test only the reading i did not pass. So if theres any help you can give me it would be an honor.

  27. Aimee

I believe students need to take this test because it is easy enough to cheat and pass a class, or in many cases, pass all your high school classes, however testing students over skills they should have already acquired gives a better idea of their actual education level.

  28. Aimee

By the way, some of the comments left by students are enough to validate my response, many of them can’t spell or differentiate between word usage, (i.e. WASTE and WAIST, techinacation, acheived (used by a parent), destroing us of are ability to make some thing of are self’s, A A+ student like me need to graduate so that I can make something usefull) etc…, these are a PRIME EXAMPLE of why students need to spend more time in school allowing themselves to get a better education. Nothing is wrong with an extra year or two in school, you will be better prepared for college and the life ahead of you. No one said high school HAD to be completed in 4 years…

  29. Janice Brookshire

The English and Math portions of the GA GHSGT are very easy to pass. They cover the basics. If you have taken the courses required for graduation, you have no problem scoring high on these sections. If you have a learning disability, it may be more difficult but not necessarily. The Science and Social Studies portions are more difficult because they focus on details. One can study “war” for instance, and do a lot of critical thinking but not pass the test….because it focuses on small details. A good teacher teaches concepts, not details….so it presents quite a dilemna for teachers of those subjects. There are many practice tests online for free.

  30. Billy Lamie

I also think the test is crap.I’m class president of the senior class @ Hephzibah. I have taken the science part of the grad. test 4 times as of now and yet to pass it. The test needs to be destroyed. I have never made lower then a B on my report card, but because of this stupid test, its possible I wont graduate.

  31. I have been taking the Math ,Science, and Social Studies alot of times and I can’t seem to pass it. I love Social Studies and I passed every social studies class I ever had and for some reason I just can’t pass them. The Math test is easy and I don’t see how I can’t pass that one. I a mso tired of havin’ to take them stupid test. Everybody isn’t made to take them test. We pass our classes but them test hold people back from graduating and people get tired of taking them and go get their GED. SO PLEASE SOMEBODY GET RID OF THEM TEST!!! I AM 19 YRS. OLD AND WANT MY DIPLOMA WITHOUT HAVIN’ TO BE STRESSED OUT ABOUT THE GHSGT!!!!!!!!!

  32. I have been taking the Math ,Science, and Social Studies alot of times and I can’t seem to pass it. I have a quick question for you regarding something I am puzzled about since my wife and I moved to Atlanta from Chicago almost two years ago. Everywhere I go at this time of the year, I see countless amounts of large banners offering congratulations to whichever outgoing seniors happen to live within whatever subdivision it happens to be. Our daughter is “graduating” from preschool to kindergarten and there’s a major spectacle being organized by the school for her. My question is, why such a big deal about graduation?!? If it were college, great. Graduate school, medical school, etc.? Knock yourself out. But high school? Please. Where I come from, they practically put your name up in big bold letters if you don’t graduate. I’m just hoping you can elaborate on what these traditions are all about so I’ll have a better understanding of things. Thanks.

  34. Amber

I just took the Lang. Arts portion yesterday.
We spent a whole week in the auditorium studying for this “big test”.
Once I took it, all that was reviewed WASN’T EVEN ON THE TEST.
    All juniors were infuriated!
Today I take Math. I hope I pass, I am very weak in this area.
    Jesus will help me.
Unfortunately, freshman as of 2009 will NOT take the GHSGT.
No fair, these people are true idiots.

  35. Claudene Gallenbeck

will you please tell me if there are some parent support groups who are actively fighting against the graduation exam, my kid hasn’t passed it yet and will not receive a diploma after 12 years of hard work.

  36. Claudene Gallenbeck

please contact me if you are interested in getting rid of the georgia high school graduation exam, I have some plans and contacts but I need alot of numbers!!

  37. Mike

Just got the news my daughter didn’t pass the science part (496). How could the state of georgia stand by and watch this school system with flaws from top to bottom destroy our young people lives, dreams, hopes base on this test. sad very sad…..

  38. Mary Rodriguez

I feel that these graduation tests are very unfair. I was suppose to graduate in 2000. I was pulled into my principal’s office two weeks before graduation. He hugged me and said that he was very sorry. I had no idea what was going on then, he tells me that i will not be graduating. He told me that i failed the science portion only by a couple of points and will be getting a certificate of attendance instead. I was so crushed and hurt that they told me this two weeks before the end of school. It was a very hurtful time for me and i decided not to walk with my class. Why would I? To get some stupid piece of paper that said i was attending there. It is now 2008 and i am almost 27. I have taken this stupid test about 4 times and failed each time. I feel like that movie rudy when it comes to this bullshit test. This test proves nothing. We bust out ass for 12 years and there are a lot of smart kids that have failed this test. Kids have had scholarships taken away from them. It’s horrible to crush someone’s dreams like that. I am one of those kids.

  39. J-lo

I have taken this test about 4 times as well. I was able to march with my class in 2002 but I still felt bad for not passing the science protion. Now I am 24 yrs old and still no diploma. This was very discouraging to me because I was taking college prep classes and was planning to go to college. Now I am studying to get at least a GED but still I wish I had my diploma. I had dreams and still do. Its such a setback. I know how yall feel.

  40. cindy

What happen to no kids left behind if you dont pass this test then you are surely left behind without a diploma i do not think they should have ever been such a test made.
I have a daughter who does not test well on this test .what is wrong with people today they are putting to much stress on kids .Get rid of ghsgt It not helping anybody It is leaving Kids with out a career !!!!!!!! and thinking they are dumb!!!

  41. Adrian

My brother has take this science test 6 times and still has been unsuccessful. I am interested in joining with anyone who wishes that these tests be done away with. Imagine his highest score has been a 496 and just in July 2008 he received a 492. I am highly upset with this test especially seeing that my brother is on a technical high school diploma track.

  42. T. Parson

I think the parents and students should start a class action lawsuit against the department of education. If students are required by law to go to school , the school should be liable to graduate them with a diploma by any mean necessary. This lawsuit will get people off there butts and help these kids. This No Child Left behind is a joke and it is leaving everyone behind!

  43. I agree they need to end the Georgia High School Graduation Test. This test is just one big headache to people, honestly i don t see the point to these four test. I have taken this test four times in 2008 i wasted half my summer in summer school reviewing this test and still failed. I don t see why the Board of education continues to the graduation test, its only going to lead to more high school dropouts. Doing four years in High School is enough cant we just do our four years in High School graduation and be done not having to worry about four test in order to receive a Diploma. This is the main reason why people are dropping out of high school its not because of teachers its because knowing people are struggling to pass high school is a real burden on there shoulders. And know the have to pass the Graduation test is stress. When they end the graduation test or if the Board of Education decides to the dropout rate will come down.I really want my diploma I want it so i can get into college to start taking my classes to become a dental asisstent please end this test

  44. Shirley

This graduation test is ridiculous. My son “graduated” from high school passing all required classes. He has been diagnosed with a math learning disability and ADD. He has worked hard but has not been able to pass math grad. test. Why is it that all through school he had different tests, smaller classes, accommadations. But time to graduate and you have such minimal accomadations with these. It is not true to rest of HS. It is beyond ridiculous to complete 12 years pass every class and get no diploma. This is truly the no child left behind because they all quit!! Why go 12 years and get no diploma!!! That’s stupid!

  45. justin

I think a test to see if you get a diploma is flat out STUPID!! Some students are not good test takers. Its unfair to have all your credits, but fail the test and not get a diploma. They need to change that rule ASAP. Thats just how i feel about the system.

  46. justin

High school is already hard enough. Why do we have to take four test. They just need to end it before more kids dropout. Its a lot of pressure.

  47. Kisha

I might not graduate because of the science portion of the GHSGT. I only have to more weeks until I have to take the test for the last time (or else I don’t graduate) That test is absolutely pointless and unfair. My school just recently put me in a Prep class to help me (they waited until after I had failed the test 3+ times)

Last year when I lived in Florida we had to take the FCAT, which all I had to pass was the Math and Reading and I did but this GHSGT is too strict. It’s rediculous that some kids have worked so hard to get to their senior year of school and then fail because of some stupid test. And they wonder why so many kids drop out. If I don’t pass that test I am going to join the statistics for h.s. drop-outs.

What makes it even bad as that I have a neurological disorder that causes me to have different types of seizures, it seems to be making it hard for me to learn and I still have to take the test.

  48. I acquired to consider the check 2 yrs in the past and failed all of them that 12 months. I quickly had to absorb it the summer time at seaside substantial and failed all of them then. And the yr befor last I passed the English, and Social studies check. But I stell acquired the math and research check to think about. On the starting of the college year I took the mathematics and handed It. This 12 months I must consider the research check.

  49. Brandon

I took the GHSGT after years of sleeping in class and failing to pay attention in class. I only missed one question.

TL;DR: If you can’t pass the GHSGT and get held back, thank god. I do NOT want you as any professional working for me.

  50. The very crux of your writing while sounding reasonable originally, did not settle properly with me personally after some time. Someplace throughout the paragraphs you actually were able to make me a believer unfortunately just for a very short while. I nevertheless have got a problem with your leaps in assumptions and you would do nicely to help fill in all those breaks. When you actually can accomplish that, I would certainly end up being impressed.

  51. JaVance

I cant stand taking this test it makes me mad haven to take the GHSGT order to get your diploma is just not right.

  52. JaVance

this test is holding me back to start looking a colleges. some one please end the
GHSGT its making every one go crazy.

  53. bianca

OK SO THEY GOT RID OF THE GHSGT BUT NOT FOR THE 2011 SENIORS…IM CURRENTLY TAKING THE SOCIAL STUDIES PART FOR THE 5TH TIME , ITS ALREADY HARD FOR ME BECAUSE I HAVE A LEARNING DISORDER AND EVERYTIME I TAKE IT I KEEP FAILING MORE AND MORE.THE FIRST TIME I FAILED BY TWO POINTS. THE PEOPLE AT THE BOARD OF EDUCATION DENIED MY WAIVER EVEN THOUGH I HAD ALL THE EXPECTATIONS NOW I DNT KNOW WHAT 2 DO…MY MOTHER KEEPS TELLING TO GET A GED AND GET IT OVER WITH OR KEEP FAILING & FAILING THE TEST…IM CONSTANTLY DEPRESSED AND FEEL LIKE DYING (LITERALLY)…I DNT KNOW WHAT 2 DO…I ALSO REFUSE TO GET A GED….AT AHS YOU NEED 21 CREDITS TO GRADUATE, I PASSED WITH 28 CREDITS AND PASSED ALL OF MY CLASSES..NO I DIDNT WALK WITH MY CLASS..I FEEL LIKE IF I CANT MOVE ON WITH MY LIFE, WHY LIVE IT..THIS ENTIRE THING IS BREAKING ME INTO LITTLE BITTY PIECES I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO…..I NEED HELP! IF ANYONE POSSIBLY CARES PLEASE EMAIL ME SOME ADVICE crnkasia@yahoo.com

I must say that the Georgia High School Graduation Test is crap. I took all of the test and failed the Social Studies by one point and took it over and over again and still couldn’t get it. I did get to walk with my class but with a certificate of attendance and that was back in 1999. I am now going to get my GED which I do not want cause I went to school, and as I see it I did it for nothing. I called the board of eduacation cause of the no child left behind well I was told that if I would have took it one more time they would have gave it to me. This is all VERY upsetting to me cause I always wanted to quit school and I pushed my self to finish school and got nothing out of it. I really dont know what to do. I feel I am going to school again for something I shouldnt be doing cause I believe I deserve my diploma. I passed all my classes with A,B,C s and for what? I guess I should have just been a drop out, cause now I am in classes with drop outs and that was’nt me. If any one has any suggestions or can advise me on who I can write or talk to that would be great. I just really don’ t want to retake all those test cause I could’nt pass just one, that just dont seem right to me and am sure others will agree with me.

I own my own business, An Evangelist for the gospel and it’s still upsetting to know that I can’t attend a college until I pass it or take a GED. I refuse to take a GED because I didn’t drop out of school I went every chance I got. Pregant in my 12th year. I still didn’t quit school, I actually went to an open campus, worked at my own pace. 13 classes behind because I moved from Alabama to Georgia. I still manage to complete these classes and walk three months after attending school. If I wanted to take a Ged… Seems like it would had been better for me to drop out of school.
