“Turn off the Smart Bombs and show our seriousness…”

Shorter Jeff Goldstein:

“Exterminate the brutes.”

Holy cow. Shelby Steele sure has stirred up the hornet’s nest of impotent rage that is the warbloggers’ side of the blogosphere.

God save us from men with no jobs and their potency fantasies…. Quick, Jeff, more pictures of you wearing shooting glasses!

::UPDATE:: Welcome, race fans! I have apparently been linked by Mr. Goldstein himself, along with this commentary:

Well, I’d go with kill the enemy, but to each his own. Plus, Patrick’s formation uses totally boss terms like “exterminate” and “brutes”—which recalls genocide and racist dehumanization of the enemy.

I seem to recall that the passage recommending taking the “smart” out of “smart bomb” came from… hm… let me see… YOUR BLOG, Mr. Goldstein. As for the “genocide and racist dehumanization… etc etc….”

Well, if the hood fits, sweetheart….

Wow. I just don’t know how to respond to this blatant display of fascist militarism except to shake my head in disgust at the ignorance and insecurity on display in that thread. A bunch of impotent men, screaming from their mother’s basements about how this war is “too nice” and they don’t even have the balls to do any fighting themselves. George Orwell said it most succintly:

    One of the most
horrible features of war is that all the war-propaganda, all the screaming and
lies and hatred, comes invariably from people who are not fighting. The P.S.U.C. militiamen whom I knew in the line, the Communists from the International Brigade whom I met from time to time, never called me a Trotskyist or a traitor; they left that kind of thing to the journalists in the rear. The people who wrote pamphlets against us and vilified us in the newspapers all remained safe at home, or at worst in the newspaper offices of Valencia, hundreds of miles from the bullets and the mud. And apart from the libels of the inter-party feud, all the usual war-stuff, the tub-thumping, the heroics, the vilification of the enemy–all these were done, as usual, by people who were not fighting and who in many cases would have run a hundred miles sooner than fight.

[…] Yeah, so Jeff Goldstein seems to fail to grasp that he was being parodied by someone who took his point EXACTLY in the post below. You want to see the whole thing reduced to a VERY fine point? More bombs=more dead people. I don’t see how it could be much more plain than that. Perhaps we should ask the people of Fallujah if we’re showing too much FUCKING RESTRAINT…. I am, y’know, sort of losing my sense of humor about the whole exchange, but, ehm, TBogg, he isn’t. […]

The problem is, actually, I don’t think he’s miserable enough….

Hallucinogens, for all of their odd shortcomings, tend to have the merit of sometimes bringing the user to an abrupt and shocking intimacy with their true place in the universe…

that is, an infinitesimally tiny speck of nothing in a vast sea of more nothing.

Seems a bit of that could go a long way over at Casa Goldstein….

I enjoyed how the bright young sophisticate Jeff Goldstein mocked your use of “totally boss” words — and missed the Heart of Darkness reference.

Poor Joseph Conrad. His reputation is in the toliet now that Jeff has so wittily “dissed” him.

[…] Well, the game is up- Thers (in the comments) has identified and applied the context of my (now somewhat famous) dart hurled at Jeff Goldstein over at Protein Wisdom. I will let Thers take if from here for a bit: I enjoyed how the bright young sophisticate Jeff Goldstein mocked your use of “totally boss” words — and missed the Heart of Darkness reference. […]
