A Tempest in the Tube

Over at Atrios, there’s a flurry of I-troll-you/you-troll-me entries on his comment board over this entry in Nathan Newmans blog. I skimmed it, just to see what all the smoke and noise was about.

And it’s about TV. Jesus, folks. That box in your living room is a font of misrepresentations, oversimplifications, just plain lies and the sacrifice of everything (EVERYTHING) that stands in the way of making a buck. Go here and buy the very Remington Model 1100 pictured, buy a box of 12 gauge, 2 3/4 inch high brass shells in 00, go home and shoot the fucking demon right in its big glass eye.

Once you’ve finished that mission, drag the smoking heap of glass and plastic to the curb and go find a used book store.

[mumbling to self]can’t believe people….a fucking tv show….morons….[/mumbling to self]

TV is the Eye of Hell! The minute people start discussing a TV show, I know just what’s coming. Their eyes get this faraway look, they start talking about life in terms of the plot line and brains start leaking out their ears.

Your solution is clearly the best! But Wally World? Not while there’s an independent left breathing. For a few bucks more, I get to argue with someone who knows what he’s talking about.

Point taken. I used Wal-Mart because I knew everyone in America had one within driving distance. That, and the independent gun dealers that I have frequented are often the most fascist, racist, redneck people I have ever met in all of my affairs. Something about fear and anger and owning a LOT of guns….

I guess I’ve been lucky. While the gun shows I’ve gone to have had their fair share - and more - of awful people, most gun enthusiasts and merchants I’ve met have been cranky libertarians. I have real soft spot in my heart for libertarians - also for cranky people, as long as they’re not TOO cranky.
