Did anyone else know that Strom “DixieKKKrat” Thurmond had a black daughter? No foolin’, folks. Read all about it.
Some excerpts:
In all the words spent on Strom Thurmond’s life and times since his death last week, I have seen no acknowledgment of the most interesting of his sundry racial legacies. She is Essie Mae Washington Williams, a widowed former school teacher in her 70s, living in Los Angeles. Presumably she did not show up for any of the obsequies even though Strom Thurmond was almost certainly her father. Williams is black.
…
We need not dwell on the obvious mind-boggling hypocrisies here: that someone who ran for president on an anti-pool-mixin’ platform was party to an integrated gene pool. Or that Thurmond’s other signature political achievement?the 24-hour-without-bathroom-break filibuster against the Civil Rights Act of 1957?was done in the name of sparing the South from “mongrelization.”
This is too rich! The story I have linked to has some more details, for example, that the mother was his former housekeeper, that sort of thing. Oh, my, my, my….
Sigh.
Why am I not surprised when I hear such “sensational” disclosures about politicians anymore?
After some time you really begin to think if all of our opinions, rantings, votes make even an iota of a difference…
Not really surprised. White men have a long history of gettin’ it on w/ black women. In fact, many of the light-skinned Negros you see in parts of Louisiana today are because of such “race-mixing.”
Octaroon (1/8 black) prostitutes used to catch a pretty penny back in the day.
The term that I have heard bandied about is “Plantation Rape.”
My God, that is hilarious! At least tho old bastard is finally dead. Good riddance. By the way, where the hell have you been? Haven’t seen your brother in a while either. I hope all is well. Give me a call. Same last four digits as my home phone, prefix 814. We been missing you at Alastica.

It took a lot of courage for Essie Mae Washington-Williams to come forward and I wish her well and am very proud of her. I hope she gets the peace and closure she is seeking. Good for Strom, he did something right, by educating his daughter and giving her the self esteem she deserve. How he must have suffer, because he was not strong enough to publicly acknowledge her more. great for her and her family.
I think that Mrs. Williams is after more that she lets on. To my understanding, Thurmond supported her for 78 years, to me that is more than any father should have to do. She waited 78 years to tell her story- the true question is-would she have this same desire to free her conscious if the man was still alive? I truly believe it is all about money-if it was about being accepted by Thurmond’s wife and children as she lets on she would have come out a long time ago. In her interview the last comment she made-”I was here first” is true, but if Thurmond did not specify her in his will it doesn’t really matter who was here first, but who is here now. And I don’t think she deserves anything. She denied him publicly growing up ( whatever the reasons were), I feel she should keep that up now that he is dead.
Yeah, whatever, Ms. Peters. Sounds like Strom’s little chicken has come home to roost, and the family ain’t liking it.
